About
I'm a Masters student in English at Emporia State University a small liberal arts college in the midwest. I recieved my BA in English from ESU, as well, with minors in Creative Writing and History.
I'm a GTA where I teach two sections of English Composition I in the fall and English Composition II in the spring.
My main areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Rhetoric (especially focusing on women), The Short Story (both genre and form), Women's Literature, Women's History, and creative non-fiction or memoir writing. Although, I love to write stories, my voice within the writing is much stronger in memoir type pieces.
For my thesis I want to examine the writings from the women’s movement (1840-present) from the rhetorical strategies of moral conflict, consciousness raising, and the personal as political. I am using three writers: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Adrienne Rich, and bell hooks.
My last year as an undergraduate I worked for the director of ESU's Ethnic and Gender Studies program. It was through this job that I became interested in women's issues as well as gender studies.
After I recieve my MA I would like to get my PhD in a dual program of English and Women's Studies or Rhetoric and Women's Studies.
